Rick & Laura Cryer

A message from Rick and Laura Cryer - who can't be with us

Hi all!

Dave tells me that some of you have been asking after me – too kind! Well, as you may see from the attached photo, I’m OK apart from not being able to walk far. This was a couple of years ago in Monet’s garden at Giverny and I don’t think I’ve got a lot slower since then.

I was diagnosed with (primary progressive) MS in 1991 and retired in 1996. I must say that academia seems to have managed very well without me and I can’t say I ever gave it a backward glance.

I afraid I won’t be able to join you in Aber, which is a real shame.  At that time we will be somewhere in central France in our motorhome heading for our friends’ place in Monflanquin in Lot et Garonne.  Then on to Alcala near Madrid where our son is doing some advanced TEFL course for a year at the university. He has been teaching in Shenzhen for 6 years and wants a change of scene and language. Then on to Albufeira to an apartment for a couple of weeks with siblings dropping by, and then off to Bilbao to get the ferry home at the end of October.

So, as you may see, I still get about a bit. If you are ever passing through Sheffield then please do drop in – we can even give you a bed now the nest is empty.

I hope you have a great weekend in Aber; from the Streetview pics that Dave sent me it looks like someone has actually been spending big money on the place since I was there last.
